Job summary

Kimley-Horn, in St. Petersburg, FL, seeks an Electrical Engineer to contribute to an expanding MEP team. You will design electrical systems for buildings, coordinate with cross-functional teams, and prepare specifications and cost estimates while engaging on projects across multiple market sectors.

You will work in a fast-paced environment, leveraging AutoCAD and Revit, and collaborate with leading professionals and jurisdictions to deliver high-quality design documents.

Qualifications

  • Five+ years of experience in electrical engineering.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering; advanced degrees are a plus.
  • Professional Engineer license preferred.
  • Proficiency using AutoCAD.
  • Building Information Modeling (Autodesk Revit) experience is a plus.
  • Electrical power, lighting, and fire alarm design experience.
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently or in a team environment effectively.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, challenging environment.

Responsibilities

  • Design electrical systems including low and medium voltage power distribution, standby generation, interior/exterior lighting for buildings, local area IT networks, access control, security, and fire alarm systems.
  • Participate on project teams in an active production role.
  • Prepare project specifications.
  • Prepare electrical construction cost estimates.
  • Coordinate and verify as-built drawings.
  • Develop reports and design documents (electrical floor plans, equipment schematics, block diagrams, load calculations, connection diagrams).
  • Collaborate with other industry leaders, jurisdictions, and contractors on multiple project types (Office, Residential Highrise, Mixed-use/Retail, Municipal, Hospitality, Transportation, Industrial/Manufacturing, Sustainability/Decarbonization).

Job description

We have a challenging and highly rewarding opportunity for a motivated Electrical Engineer to help grow our expanding MEP team in our St. Pete, Florida (FL) office. This is not a remote position.

Responsibilities
  • This position provides an opportunity to work on a variety of building projects that will ensure your success and growth in your career. Additionally, you will contribute to the design of major projects from various markets locally and around the country.
  • Design of electrical systems including low and medium voltage power distribution, stand‑by generation, interior/exterior lighting for buildings, local area IT networks, access control, security, and fire alarm systems
  • Participate on project teams in an active production role
  • Preparation of project specifications
  • Preparation of electrical construction cost estimates
  • Daily interaction and collaboration on cross‑functional teams across multiple disciplines
  • Coordination and verification of as‑built drawings
  • Perform quality work that promotes client retention
  • Responsible for the development of reports and design documents, including electrical floor plans, equipment schematic diagrams, equipment block diagrams, equipment load calculations, and connection diagrams
  • You will work closely and collaboratively with other industry‑leading professionals, various jurisdictions, and contractors on multiple project types including:
    • Office
    • Residential Highrise
    • Mixed‑use/ Retail
    • Municiple
    • Hospitality
    • Transportation
    • Industrial/Manufacturing
    • Sustainability/ Decarbonization
Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in electrical engineering
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (advanced degrees are a plus)
  • Professional Engineer license preferred
  • Firm understanding of the National Electrical Code, other NFPA codes/standards, and energy codes
  • Proficiency using Computer‑Aided Design and Drafting (AutoCAD)
  • Building Information Modeling (BIM – Autodesk Revit) experience is a plus
  • Electrical power, lighting, and fire alarm design experience
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills
