Job summary

West Virginia K-12 Jobs seeks experienced educators to serve as mentors for beginning teachers in its mentorship program. Mentors receive a $300 stipend per semester and are selected based on completing the required WVDE mentor training.

The program spans a full academic year with assignments renewed each semester; mentors must have completed the WV Department of Education's mentor course before the mentorship ends.

Qualifications

• Must have or complete mentor course offered thru WV State Department of Education before end of mentorship.
• Preference for teachers holding the Master Mentor Teacher Advanced Credential.
• Mentor training institute must be completed prior to or during the first semester.

Responsibilities

• Provide mentorship to beginning teachers for a year-long period, with assignments renewed semester-to-semester.
• Coordinate with schools and the personnel office to place mentors with beginning teachers.

Application Procedure

Preference for teachers at the same school, teaching the same or similar subject and grade level as the beginning teacher. Mentor must have completed the WV Center for Professional Development's mentor training institute prior to or during the first semester of such assignment. Preference given to those teachers holding the Master Mentor Teacher Advanced Credential. EMPLOYMENT TERM: The Beginning Teacher Mentorship is a year-long experience, completed in the semester increments. The mentor is assigned on a semester-to-semester basis pending the placement of the beginning teacher.

***Each Faculty Senate shall have an opportunity to make recommendations on the selection of faculty to serve as mentors for beginning teachers under beginning teacher internship programs at the school (18-5A-5)
