Job summary

Mentor Teacher position with Coos Bay School District 9 in Coos Bay, Oregon. The role focuses on coaching induction-phase teachers to promote quality instruction through direct on-the-job development.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years’ teaching experience at the relevant level; 5 years preferred.
  • Knowledge of research-based programs, effective instruction, differentiation, and formative assessments.
  • Strong communication and classroom management skills.
  • District-approved training prior to mentoring plus two-hour CBEA training.
  • Use of district-approved software and curriculum.
  • Ability to differentiate instruction and assess student performance.

Responsibilities

  • Provide observation of exemplary practice and model lessons.
  • Assist induction-phase teachers in reflecting on practice.
  • Confer with induction-phase teachers on techniques via team teaching, demonstrations, simulations, and consultations.
  • Maintain a confidential, non-evaluative relationship to identify instructional resources and support structures.
  • Provide non-evaluative assessments and conversations with mentees.
  • Complete monthly mentor activity surveys with mentees.
