Job Description

Mentor Teacher FOR THE 2026-2027 SCHOOL YEAR

$1,000 stipend

SUMMARY :

The definition of mentor is broad. Mentors may offer counsel, provide information, interpret institutional and/or departmental policies and practice, serve as role models, and act as advisers, guides, or advocates in a variety of formalized and less formal contexts to protégés . The Mentor Teacher position entails proven excellence as a classroom teacher and exemplary skills in developing, collaborating, implementing and assessing instructional strategies to improve overall achievement in core content areas, problem solving skills, and use of modern technology for all students. Mentors shall use instructional research and strategies in mentoring protégés.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.

The mentor may provide any or all of the following:

  • Providing support with planning, including planning with teachers and/or providing feedback to Protégé(s) on weekly lesson planning.
  • Co-teaching or team teaching when appropriate.
  • Providing demonstration teaching for Protégé(s) to observe.
  • Providing non-threatening support to Protégé(s) and serving as a “sounding board” for the inevitable first-year frustrations.
  • Substituting with the Protégé's classroom occasionally so that Protégé can observe other teachers.
  • Making classroom observations and providing feedback to Protégé(s).
  • Providing information on finding instructional resources.
  • Helping the Protégé(s) connect their graduate course work and/or professional training, particularly classroom research and classroom management, to their classrooms.
  • Scripting children or the Protégé in the classroom for a particular reason (special education placement, working on management/discipline, etc.).
  • Video-taping the classroom for the Protégé to allow the Protégés to practice self-analysis and reflection and to use such video-taping in the comprehensive project.
  • Familiarizing Protégé(s) with district curriculum and building instructional programs.
  • Helping Protégé(s) learn about district and building policies and procedures.
  • Assisting the Protégé(s) in completion of the Professional Development Plan.

Position Type: Part Time

Salary: $1,000 to $1,000 Per Year
