Job summary

  • Provide non-evaluative assessments and conversations with mentees.
  • Complete monthly mentor activity surveys with mentees.

Mentor Teacher

This position helps promote quality instruction in schools by providing direct, on-the-job coaching and professional development to induction-phase teachers so they can become more proficient in their role as an educator.

Qualifications:
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience (5 years preferred) in teaching at the level/subject matter of the new teacher. Experience in comprehensive, supplemental, and intervention programs are desired.
  • Highly knowledgeable about research-based programs, principlesof effective instruction, differentiation, targeted interventions, instructional strategies, and use of common formative assessments.
  • Effective communication and classroom management skills.
  • Go through District approved training prior to serving as a mentor and a two-hour CBEA training in addition to District training. (These trainings may be jointly developed and held together if the parties so choose.)
  • Use mental agility that results in well thought out coaching strategies.
  • Be team-oriented
  • Knowledge of successful techniques for classroom organization and experience planning for effective instruction.
  • Knowledge of instructional strategies that connect the curriculum to the learner.
  • Ability to communicate information and ideas in speaking so others will understand.
  • Ability to use district approved software and curriculum.
  • Time management skills for self and others.
  • Ability to differentiate instruction and assess student performance.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with students, staff, and parents in a professional manner.
  • Ability to be flexible and adapt as needed between in-person learning environments.
  • Knowledge of school safety and security procedures.
Responsibilities:
  • Provides opportunities for observation of exemplary practice and model lessons.
  • Assists induction-phase teachers in reflecting on and analyzing their practices.
  • Confers with induction-phase teachers in utilizing the appropriate teaching methodologies through techniques such as team teaching, demonstrations, simulations and consultations.
  • Serves as a liaison to establish, maintain, and promote a confidential and non-evaluative relationship with induction phase teachers to identify instructional resources and support structures through the entire district.
  • Provides informative assessments and processes including non-evaluative conversations with induction-phase teachers by utilizing classroom practices and student learning methods.
  • Must complete monthly mentor survey of activities completed with mentee.
