Job summary

Roosevelt High in Des Moines, IA is seeking a Dream to Teach Mentor Teacher (Stipend) to mentor 6th–12th grade aspiring educators. The role is part-time with a $2,097 monthly stipend and requires a valid Iowa teaching license and strong instructional leadership.

Responsibilities include weekly student check-ins, field trip chaperoning, reflecting on practice, and delivering professional development for mentors and students. Training will occur throughout the year.

Qualifications

• Valid Iowa Teaching License.
• Evidence of exemplary classroom teaching through evaluations, portfolio, NBCT status or other recognition.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Knowledge of differentiated instruction for gifted, ESL, and students with special needs.

Responsibilities

• Establish and maintain a trustful, confidential relationship with students to support their development as future instructional leaders.
• Check in with students weekly about academic performance, assignments and behavior.
• Chaperone field trips such as college visits and meetings with community partners.
• Assist Dream to Teach students in reflecting on and analyzing their practice and reviewing student work to inform instruction and improve outcomes.
• Use equity principles to deepen Dream to Teach students' application of standards.
• Model innovative teaching methods and arrange classroom visits to observe exemplary practice.
• Provide professional learning opportunities to Dream to Teach students to build collegiality.
• Collaborate with Dream to Teach mentors, site coordinator, and district staff for coherence of coaching activities.
• Fully participate in professional development provided through Dream to Teach.
• Commit to growth and goal setting per the Marzano framework and performance targets.
• Maintain and submit required documentation.
• Demonstrate high standards of honesty, integrity, flexibility and responsiveness.
