Job Summary

At Oceans Behavioral Hospital, we understand the importance of turning to someone you can trust with your behavioral health needs. We are passionate about helping individuals experiencing depression, anxiety, schizophrenia, behavioral changes related to Alzheimer’s disease or other dementias, medication management, substance abuse, and other mental health issues.

The Mental Health Technician (MHT) supports nursing staff by performing routine tasks and patient care activities within their training and experience. The MHT maintains a safe, professional standard of care in accordance with regulations, Oceans' policies, and performance standards.

Essential Functions
  1. Adhere to professional standards, policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  2. Apply supportive behavior, employ de-escalation and therapeutic interventions when assisting patients exhibiting unacceptable behavior.
  3. Inventory patient belongings, secure contraband, and conduct safety checks.
  4. Follow infection control policies and attend in-services for self-information.
  5. Assist with patient care under supervision, including vital signs, weights, ADL, documentation, and nutritional monitoring.
  6. Help patients with laundry, meals, bathroom functions, and mobility needs, respecting age, cultural, and disability considerations.
  7. Document patient observations, behaviors, and care activities accurately and timely.
  8. Communicate effectively with nursing staff regarding patient care and ongoing activities.
  9. Perform additional duties as assigned.
Requirements

Education / Experience: High school diploma or equivalent, CNA certification, or at least 6 months of bedside patient care experience.

Skills / Qualifications: Ability to read, write, follow instructions, communicate effectively, work with diverse populations, and maintain good physical and mental health. Must complete CPR and behavioral de-escalation training.
