Job summary

UMass Memorial Health invites applications for a Mental Health Support role within the Adult Inpatient Psychiatry unit. The position works with patients, families and fellow staff to ensure safety, observe and document vitals, and assist with treatments and activities under licensed nurse supervision.

Outstanding communication and de‑escalation skills are essential, as is compliance with HIPAA, safety policies, and unit routines.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• American Heart Association CPR certification required.
• Avade 2 (restraint) training within 30 days of hire.
• Associate's degree preferred.
• Medical terminology and computer skills preferred.

Responsibilities

• Serves as a member of the Mental Health Team and supports patients, families, nurses, physicians and colleagues.
• Records vital signs and documents in the electronic medical record.
• Maintains patient safety through safety checks and environmental rounds.
• Uses de-escalation methods and follows restraint policies when needed.
• Participates in development of a safe and therapeutic environment.
• Notes daily progress and communicates with the clinical team.
