The Membership Director leads the membership team in their efforts to drive new membership sales, meet or exceed goals set by management, and deliver an exceptional member experience that fosters strong member retention.

Responsibilities

  • Understand and communicate YMCA membership benefits and values to diverse audiences
  • Develop and implement strategies to meet or surpass membership goals and lead-to-join rates
  • Manage prospects and membership processes using organizational CRM
  • Hire, train, and oversee staff and volunteers, ensuring adequate coverage and onboarding
  • Audit and recognize staff for adherence to procedures and quality member experiences
  • Create and manage sales scripts and processes, training staff for enthusiastic delivery
  • Identify training needs and lead staff development sessions
  • Foster member and participant engagement to enhance retention
  • Handle membership account maintenance, including fee collection and processing memberships
  • Plan and execute branch events to boost membership and represent YMCA externally
  • Lead the volunteer membership committee to support sales and retention efforts
  • Manage branch membership budget and ensure policy compliance
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • High school diploma/GED required; bachelor’s degree preferred
  • 3-5 years of member services and sales experience with strong interpersonal skills
  • Experience training staff in sales and prospecting preferred
  • Friendly, approachable demeanor; excellent communication skills; public speaking ability
  • Fluent in spoken and written English
  • Proficient in computer systems and quick learner of new software
  • Obtain and maintain required certifications within 90 days of hire

Work Conditions & Physical Demands

Must be able to work with computers for extended periods, communicate effectively, and perform physical tasks like moving up to 10 pounds. Reasonable accommodations available for disabilities. Moderate noise level expected.
