Wakefield is an applied research lab building AI-native security services. You will work directly with the founders to own the motions that run the company: recruiting, partnerships, pricing, contracting, enterprise procurement, operating cadence, and special projects.

Your role includes leading initiatives that shape how the business scales, with the potential to become Chief of Staff for exceptional candidates. This is a hands-on leadership track based in San Francisco.

We find and fix every vulnerability in our customers' applications. When a new AI model is released, we run it against their applications before attackers do, and close what it finds.

About Wakefield

Wakefield is an applied research lab working on AI-native security services. We build security agents and publish how they work. Our methods, benchmark and raw data are public so anyone can check them.

• Source code optional: blackbox agents sign in as every role and test the running app. Whitebox agents read the code on every pull request.
• If Wakefield can't prove it, the customer never sees it: agents replay each finding in a real browser and record it. Then Wakefield writes the fix, ready to open as a pull request, and retests it. We have SLAs for zero false positives.
• One service that replaces DAST, SAST, SCA, SBOM, and the tests companies run in-house or buy in.

The role

Wakefield sells a service, not a tool, to large companies that have never bought anything like it. You'll work directly with the founders to own the motions that run the company, and hand each to an agent once it works: recruiting, partnerships, pricing and contracting, enterprise procurement, the operating cadence, and special projects. For exceptional candidates, this role is Chief of Staff to the founders.

What you'll work on

The following is an illustrative list of areas where you'll build systems from scratch. At any given time, you may own two or three of them:

• The recruiting system end to end: applicant tracking, agency partners, pipeline cadence and network activation.
• Partnerships and channels that create real distribution.
• Pricing and contracting: annual agreements priced on what we protect, deal structures and contract terms.
• Enterprise procurement: security reviews, questionnaires and vendor onboarding with large customers.
• Operating cadence: planning, weekly goals, dashboards, and board and investor updates.
• Special projects that don't fit anywhere yet, from first version to running motion.

Requirements

• Real operating experience at a fast-growing startup, not just advising
• You've built new functions, motions or organizations from scratch, and built them to keep running without you
• Strong operating fundamentals: planning, metrics, dashboards, written decisions
• Commercial judgment: you've priced, negotiated or structured deals
• You use AI agents every day to automate real parts of your work
• You genuinely care about building the machinery that makes a company run

Nice to have

• A start in finance, consulting or venture, followed by hands-on startup operating
• Experience selling to or working with large enterprises
