About AAO:
The AAO is a professional association of educationally qualified orthodontic specialists dedicated to ethically advancing the art and science of orthodontics, improving the public’s health by promoting quality orthodontic care and supporting the practice of orthodontics. The AAO is comprised of nearly 19,000 members in the United States, Canada, and abroad. The specialty of orthodontics is the oldest and largest dental specialty recognized by the American Dental Association.
Position Summary:
The Member Marketing and Communications Manager is responsible for building the AAO brand industry-wide and supporting critical AAO initiatives. This role leads marketing strategies to acquire, engage, and retain AAO members and to drive awareness and usage of programs. Additionally, this position manages media relations by crafting press releases, developing story pitches, and building relationships with journalists and influencers. It also supports senior leadership with speechwriting and crisis communications.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands:
Sedentary inside office work with no exposure to weather conditions. Requires the ability to lift, pack and unpack boxes of office supplies and to stand for long periods or longer days than usual. Occasional travel is required, approximately three trips annually of 3-8 days’ duration. Due to volunteer members’ schedules as practicing orthodontists, occasional weekend/weeknight meetings are required.
