Job summary

Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Hospital is seeking an experienced Clinical Staff Nurse (RN) to deliver high-quality, patient- and family-centered care on a Med-Surg/Telemetry unit.

Reporting to the Manager, you will plan, coordinate and document care using the Watson Model of Care and SBAR handoffs. The role requires California RN licensure, BLS/ACLS credentials, and a commitment to continuous quality improvement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor in Nursing degree required; associate degree or diploma considered for internal candidates
• Current California RN license; BLS/ACLS credentials preferred

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates the nursing process to plan, deliver and evaluate care.
• Performs focused nursing assessments and prioritizes care.
• Provides age-appropriate care and uses current literature and critical thinking in decisions.
• Supports patient satisfaction through interactions with patients and families.
• Maintains therapeutic nurse/patient relationships and conducts hourly rounds.
• Communicates using SBAR for all hand-offs.
• Documents care in IPOC and follows Watson Model of Care and unit policies.
• Anticipates factors affecting comfort and adapts interventions accordingly.
• Supports patient/family learning needs and uses available resources.
• Collaborates with care managers on discharge planning for defined populations.
• Reviews orders, promptly communicates changes to physicians, and follows up on revisions.
• Evaluates the effectiveness of nursing interventions and documents outcomes.
• Utilizes patient classification standards.
• Plans, supervises and evaluates nursing staff, floats and registries with timely shift evaluations.
• Maintains professional appearance and hospital ID; follows safety and regulatory standards.
• Participates in unit Quality and Performance Improvement activities and reports findings.
• Assists with unit orientation and setup of equipment and rooms.
• Contributes to Care Collaborative System training and integrated testing.
• Provides basic hygiene and ADL support as needed.
• Performs any additional duties as assigned by the Nurse Manager
