Job summary

Colonial Group is seeking an experienced Medium Voltage Splicer to perform high-quality splicing, terminating, and testing on underground MV distribution systems (5kV-35kV). You will work with foremen and project managers to execute safe, efficient work, document activities, and mentor apprentices while traveling outside of San Diego as needed.

The ideal candidate has 3+ years of MV splicing experience, an electrical apprenticeship, and familiarity with OSHA/NFPA 70E. Certifications are a plus.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience in medium voltage cable splicing, terminations, and testing.
• Completion of a recognized electrical apprenticeship program or equivalent field experience.
• Proficiency in splicing techniques for PILC, EPR, and XLPE cables.
• Familiarity with OSHA regulations, NFPA 70E, and utility safety standards.
• NCSCB and/or NECA MV splicer certifications preferred but not required.
• Ability to work in confined spaces, trenches, and elevated environments.

Responsibilities

• Perform splicing, terminating, and T-body installations on medium voltage cables using heat shrink, cold shrink, and molded technologies.
• Collaborate with foremen and project managers to plan and execute work safely and efficiently.
• Maintain accurate documentation of splicing activities and materials used.
• Ensure proper grounding and bonding of electrical systems.
• Adhere to all safety protocols including lockout/tagout, PPE usage, and confined space procedures.
• Participate in job site safety meetings and contribute to a culture of safety and accountability.
• Train and mentor apprentices or junior splicers as needed.
