Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
• Successful completion of State Approved Medication Aide Training and Competency Evaluation Program. Good standing in the state registry is required.
• Preferred one (1) year of previous health care experience.
• Working knowledge of Universal Precautions and Blood Borne Pathogen rules.

Responsibilities

• Administers prescribed medications and treatments as defined by state regulations and company policy.
• Observe and report to the charge nurse reactions and side-effects to medication shown by a resident.
• Take and record vital signs prior to the administration of medication.
• Document reasons prescribed drugs are not administered.
• Prepare (set up) medications and document in the resident's medication administration record.
• Administer oxygen in emergencies and notify the licensed nurse.
• Apply ophthalmic, OTIC, nasal, and vaginal medications as ordered.
• Assist with daily care tasks such as bathing, feeding, dressing, and mobility.
