Job summary

Regency Integrated Health Services is seeking a Certified Medication Aide to prepare, administer, and document prescribed medications for residents at The Shoal Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Texas City, TX.

The role requires completion of a state approved Medication Aide training and competency evaluation, with preferred healthcare experience and strong knowledge of universal precautions and bloodborne pathogen rules.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Successful completion of State Approved Medication Aide Training and Competency Evaluation Program.
• Good standing in the state registry is required.
• Preferred one (1) year of previous health care experience.
• Working knowledge of Universal Precautions and the Blood Borne Pathogen rules.

Responsibilities

• Administers prescribed medications and treatments as defined by state regulations and facility policy.
• Observe and report reactions and side-effects to medication to the charge nurse.
• Take and record vital signs prior to medication administration when required.
• Reports to charge nurse and documents reasons prescribed drugs are not administered.
• Prepare and set up medications to be administered after training.
• Document administered medications in the resident's medication administration record.
• Notify licensed nurse in emergencies and document actions accordingly.
• Apply ophthalmic, OTIC, nasal, and vaginal medications as ordered.
• Assist with daily care tasks such as bathing, feeding, dressing and mobility as needed.
• Maintain cleanliness of the nursing station, medication room and supply room.
