Job summary

Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta is seeking a Laboratory Technologist for night shifts to support the Laboratory Services team. You will process orders and specimens, perform tests, and report results with strict adherence to SOPs and safety policies.

The role emphasizes lean practices and continuous process improvements. Required is a Bachelor’s of Science in MLS or CLIA-qualified equivalent; preferred is prior clinical lab experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in chemical, biological, clinical laboratory science or MLS, or equivalent CLIA-qualified education.
• Bachelor’s degree that meets CLIA regulation 42CFR493.1489.
• Previous experience in a clinical laboratory is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Process orders and specimens, perform testing, and report results per SOPs.
• Maintain safety and compliance with hospital policies and procedures.
• Exercise independent judgment to solve non-routine problems.
• Operate instruments with validated protocols and perform quality checks.
• Maintain quality control data and take actions to ensure accuracy and precision.

Job Description

Provides timely and quality clinical information and improved patient outcomes by accurately performing laboratory tests and procedures. Works effectively with others to meet the needs of the patients and care providers. Actively promotes a Lean work culture by performing team member duties to ensure consistent use of Lean principles and processes, including continually seeking work process improvements. Assists leadership team with administrative and technical support to proactively support the efforts that ensure delivery of safe patient care and services and to promote a safe environment at Children’s.

Job Responsibilities

• Processes orders and specimens, performs accurate testing procedures across all assigned testing, and reports test results according to standard operating procedures.
• Demonstrates familiarity with and follows hospital and departmental policies and procedures, including those pertaining to safety and compliance.
• Exercises independent judgment and critical thinking in non-routine circumstances to solve problems.
• Operates instruments using established protocols and quality assurance checks and performs preventive and corrective maintenance on instruments.
• Correlates results with patient age and/or condition, recognizes deviation from expected results, and analyzes and corrects problems using standard operating procedures.
• Performs, records, and analyzes quality control data, makes judgments concerning results, and takes appropriate action to maintain accuracy and precision.
• Attends and participates in shift meetings, staff meetings and Laboratory Town Hall meetings.
• Conducts education and training for new personnel and students.
• Maintains current professional skills and technical competency as defined by laboratory competency policy.
• Actively promotes a lean culture by performing duties to promote an understanding and consistent use of lean principals and processes.
• Performs other duties as required by department.
