Job summary

Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta is seeking a Laboratory Scientist for night shifts at our Atlanta campus. The role emphasizes performing clinical laboratory tests with accuracy, reporting results, and adhering to lean process improvements.

Responsibilities include instrument operation, quality control, and collaboration with care teams to ensure timely, reliable results. A MLS/MLS certification is required, with a BS in a related field and ongoing professional development encouraged.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in chemical, biological, clinical laboratory science, MLS or equivalent (including U.S. military training) meeting CLIA 42 CFR 493.1489.
• American Society for Clinical Pathology or equivalent Medical Technologist/Medical Laboratory Scientist.
• Strong independent judgment and ability to work with minimum supervision.

Responsibilities

• Process orders and specimens; perform accurate testing procedures across all assigned testing.
• Report test results per standard operating procedures.
• Follow hospital policies, safety, and compliance requirements.
• Operate instruments with established QA checks and perform maintenance as needed.
• Correlate results with patient factors and troubleshoot deviations.
• Maintain quality control data and document it appropriately.
• Educate and train new personnel and students.
• Attend shift and town hall meetings and promote lean culture.

Job Description

Provides quality clinical information by accurately performing laboratory tests and procedures. Works effectively with others to meet patient and care provider needs. Education

Job Responsibilities

• Correlates results with patient age and/or condition, recognizes deviation from expected results, and analyzes and corrects problems using standard operating procedures.
• Performs, records, and analyzes quality control data, makes judgments concerning results, and takes appropriate action to maintain accuracy and precision.
• Maintains current professional skills and technical competency as defined by laboratory competency policy.
• Conducts education and training for new personnel and students.
• Attends and participates in shift meetings, staff meetings and Laboratory Town Hall meetings.
• Actively promotes a lean culture by performing duties to promote an understanding and consistent use of lean principals and processes.
• Performs other duties as required by department.
