Job summary

Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta is seeking a Laboratory professional to perform quality clinical testing and report results with accuracy. The role emphasizes lean process improvements and collaboration within the lab team.

Qualifications include a Bachelor's in a chemistry/biology/clinical lab field or MLS and MLS/ASCP certification; experience in a high-complexity lab is preferred. Evening shifts with regular attendance are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in chemical/biological/clinical laboratory science or MLS from an accredited institution.
• MLS certification per CLIA 42CFR493.1489 or U.S. military MLS training.
• ASCP or equivalent certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Processes orders and specimens, performs testing procedures, and reports results per SOPs.
• Follows hospital policies, safety rules, and quality standards.
• Uses instruments with established QA checks and performs maintenance as required.
• Analyzes QC data, identifies deviations, and takes corrective action.

Job Description

Provides quality clinical information by accurately performing laboratory tests and procedures. Works effectively with others to meet patient and care provider needs. Actively promotes a lean work culture by performing team member duties to encourage consistent use of lean principles and processes, including continually seeking work process improvements. Education

• Bachelor's degree in a chemical, biological, clinical laboratory science, medical laboratory science (MLS) from an accredited institution; or U.S. military provided training as a MLS; or Bachelor's degree that meets the CLIA regulation 42CFR493.1489

Job Responsibilities

• Processes orders and specimens, performs accurate testing procedures across all assigned testing, and reports test results according to standard operating procedures.
• Demonstrates familiarity with and follows hospital and departmental policies and procedures, including those pertaining to safety and compliance.
• Exercises independent judgment and critical thinking in non-routine circumstances to solve problems.
• Operates instruments using established protocols and quality assurance checks and performs preventive and corrective maintenance on instruments.
• Correlates results with patient age and/or condition, recognizes deviation from expected results, and analyzes and corrects problems using standard operating procedures.
• Performs, records, and analyzes quality control data, makes judgments concerning results, and takes appropriate action to maintain accuracy and precision.
• Maintains current professional skills and technical competency as defined by laboratory competency policy.
• Conducts education and training for new personnel and students.
• Attends and participates in shift meetings, staff meetings and Laboratory Town Hall meetings.
• Actively promotes a lean culture by performing duties to promote an understanding and consistent use of lean principals and processes.
• Performs other duties as required by department.
