Job summary

Children's Healthcare of Atlanta is seeking a Laboratory Medical Technologist to join the Laboratory Services team on the night shift. You will process orders and specimens, run tests, and report results following SOPs while maintaining accuracy and patient safety.

This role requires independent judgment, adherence to quality control, and active participation in lean initiatives. The successful candidate will train new staff and collaborate with clinicians to ensure safe, timely lab services for

Qualifications

• BS in MLS or related lab science from accredited institution or US military MLS training.
• Meets CLIA regulation 42CFR493.1489.
• ASCP or equivalent Medical Technologist/Medical Laboratory Scientist certification.
• No minimum experience required.
• Preferred: experience in a clinical laboratory.

Responsibilities

• Process orders and specimens, perform testing, and report results per SOP.
• Follow hospital and departmental policies and procedures, including safety and compliance.
• Exercise independent judgment in non-routine circumstances to solve problems.
• Operate instruments with established protocols and quality assurance checks; perform maintenance.
• Correlate results with patient age/condition; recognize deviations and correct issues.
• Record and analyze quality control data and take action to maintain accuracy.
• Attend shift meetings and participate in training; promote lean culture.

Job Description

Provides timely and quality clinical information and improved patient outcomes by accurately performing laboratory tests and procedures. Works effectively with others to meet the needs of the patients and care providers. Actively promotes a Lean work culture by performing team member duties to ensure consistent use of Lean principles and processes, including continually seeking work process improvements. Assists leadership team with administrative and technical support to proactively support the efforts that ensure delivery of safe patient care and services and to promote a safe environment at Children's.

Education

• Bachelor's of Science degree in a chemical, biological, clinical laboratory science, medical laboratory science (MLS) from an accredited institution, or U.S. military provided training as a MLS ; or Bachelor's degree that meets the CLIA regulation 42CFR493.1489

Certification Summary

• American Society for Clinical Pathology or equivalent Medical Technologist or Medical Laboratory Scientist.

• Processes orders and specimens, performs accurate testing procedures across all assigned testing, and reports test results according to standard operating procedures.
• Demonstrates familiarity with and follows hospital and departmental policies and procedures, including those pertaining to safety and compliance.
• Exercises independent judgment and critical thinking in non-routine circumstances to solve problems.
• Operates instruments using established protocols and quality assurance checks and performs preventive and corrective maintenance on instruments.
• Correlates results with patient age and/or condition, recognizes deviation from expected results, and analyzes and corrects problems using standard operating procedures.
• Performs, records, and analyses quality control data, makes judgments concerning results, and takes appropriate action to maintain accuracy and precision.
• Attends and participates in shift meetings, staff meetings and Laboratory Town Hall meetings.
• Conducts education and training for new personnel and students.
• Maintains current professional skills and technical competency as defined by laboratory competency policy.
• Actively promotes a lean culture by performing duties to promote an understanding and consistent use of lean principals and processes.
• Performs other duties as required by department.
