Job summary

Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta is seeking a Laboratory Technologist to perform quality clinical tests and report results.

You will operate instruments, maintain QA, and participate in lean process improvements while upholding patient care standards at our North Druid Hills location.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a chemical, biological, or clinical laboratory science or MLS as per CLIA 42CFR493.1489.
• No minimum experience required.
• Experience in a high complexity clinical laboratory preferred.

Responsibilities

• Processes orders and specimens, performs testing, and reports results per SOPs.
• Follows hospital policies, safety and compliance guidelines.
• Uses instruments with established protocols and conducts QA checks.
• Performs quality control data analysis and maintains accuracy.
• Participates in shift meetings and promotes lean culture.

Job Description

Provides quality clinical information by accurately performing laboratory tests and procedures. Works effectively with others to meet patient and care provider needs. Actively promotes a lean work culture by performing team member duties to encourage consistent use of lean principles and processes, including continually seeking work process improvements. Recognizes necessity of taking ownership of own motivation, morale, performance, and professional development. Education

• Bachelor's degree in a chemical, biological, clinical laboratory science, medical laboratory science (MLS) from an accredited institution; or U.S. military provided training as a MLS; or Bachelor's degree that meets the CLIA regulation 42CFR493.1489

Certification Summary

• American Society for Clinical Pathology or equivalent Medical Technologist or Medical Laboratory Scientist

Job Responsibilities

• Processes orders and specimens, performs accurate testing procedures across all assigned testing, and reports test results according to standard operating procedures.
• Demonstrates familiarity with and follows hospital and departmental policies and procedures, including those pertaining to safety and compliance.
• Exercises independent judgment and critical thinking in non-routine circumstances to solve problems.
• Operates instruments using established protocols and quality assurance checks and performs preventive and corrective maintenance on instruments.
• Correlates results with patient age and/or condition, recognizes deviation from expected results, and analyzes and corrects problems using standard operating procedures.
• Performs, records, and analyzes quality control data, makes judgments concerning results, and takes appropriate action to maintain accuracy and precision.
• Maintains current professional skills and technical competency as defined by laboratory competency policy.
• Conducts education and training for new personnel and students.
• Attends and participates in shift meetings, staff meetings and Laboratory Town Hall meetings.
• Actively promotes a lean culture by performing duties to promote an understanding and consistent use of lean principals and processes.
• Performs other duties as required by department.
