Job summary

The role emphasizes independent judgment, adherence to safety and SOPs, and education of new personnel, with a regular evening shift (Mon–Fri, 1:00 PM–11:30 PM) and a strong mission to improve pediatric patient care.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in MLS or equivalent per CLIA 42 CFR 493.1489.
• ASCP or equivalent Medical Laboratory Scientist/Technologist certification.

Responsibilities

• Processes orders and specimens, performs testing procedures and reports results.
• Follows hospital and departmental policies and safety procedures.
• Exercises independent judgment and critical thinking in non-routine circumstances.
• Operates instruments with established QA checks and performs maintenance.
• Analyses quality control data and takes action to maintain accuracy.
• Maintains professional skills and competency per policy.
• Conducts education and training for new personnel and students.
• Attends shift meetings and department town halls.
• Promotes lean culture through standard processes.

Job Description

Provides quality clinical information by accurately performing laboratory tests and procedures. Works effectively with others to meet patient and care provider needs. Actively promotes a lean work culture by performing team member duties to encourage consistent use of lean principles and processes, including continually seeking work process improvements. Recognizes necessity of taking ownership of own motivation, morale, performance, and professional development. Experience

• No minimum experience required
• Preferred Qualifications: Experience in a high complexity clinical laboratory

Education

• Bachelor's degree in a chemical, biological, clinical laboratory science, medical laboratory science (MLS) from an accredited institution; or U.S. military provided training as a MLS; or Bachelor's degree that meets the CLIA regulation 42CFR493.1489

Certification Summary

• American Society for Clinical Pathology or equivalent Medical Technologist or Medical Laboratory Scientist

Job Responsibilities

• Processes orders and specimens, performs accurate testing procedures across all assigned testing, and reports test results according to standard operating procedures.
• Demonstrates familiarity with and follows hospital and departmental policies and procedures, including those pertaining to safety and compliance.
• Exercises independent judgment and critical thinking in non-routine circumstances to solve problems.
• Operates instruments using established protocols and quality assurance checks and performs preventive and corrective maintenance on instruments.
• Correlates results with patient age and/or condition, recognizes deviation from expected results, and analyzes and corrects problems using standard operating procedures.
• Performs, records, and analyzes quality control data, makes judgments concerning results, and takes appropriate action to maintain accuracy and precision.
• Maintains current professional skills and technical competency as defined by laboratory competency policy.
• Conducts education and training for new personnel and students.
• Attends and participates in shift meetings, staff meetings and Laboratory Town Hall meetings.
• Actively promotes a lean culture by performing duties to promote an understanding and consistent use of lean principals and processes.
• Performs other duties as required by department.
