Job summary

Penn Medicine is seeking a Medical Technologist to join the STAT Laboratory. The role involves analyzing specimens, using the LIS, and ensuring accurate test results for patient care.

You will operate laboratory instruments, follow CAP/JCAHO and PA Department of Health guidelines, and participate in quality control and procedure evaluations. Training and support for new staff are included.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in medical technology or related field is required.
• CLIA-compliant education or higher in medical/biological chemistry fields.
• 2+ years laboratory experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs analyses on specimens in the STAT Laboratory.
• Utilizes the Laboratory Information System (LIS) and documents tests; verifies non-auto results.
• Operates and maintains sophisticated laboratory instruments and equipment.
• Follows maintenance and troubleshooting procedures with vendor hotlines as needed.
• Participates in evaluating new test procedures and analyses.
• Complies with CAP, JCAHO, PA Dept of Health and OSHA requirements.
• Adheres to quality control programs and institutional policies.
• Performs clerical duties including reporting results to hospital personnel.
• Assists in orientation and training of new laboratory personnel.
