Performs a variety of patient testing and administrative tasks in support of the clinical activities in UNCHCS. Responsibilities include testing in the Central Processing, Bacteriology, and Special Microbiology sections of the laboratory, including Mycobacteriology, Mycology, Parasitology, and Sendouts. Tasks include specimen processing, Gram stains, rapid antigen and molecular/PCR testing, automation, organism ID, susceptibility testing, and quality control.

Hours (other schedule options can be discussed at interview):

• Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 10:00am-8:30pm
• OR 11:00am-9:30pm with rotating weekends (every 4th) and holidays. Thursday-Sunday
• OR Wednesday-Saturday: 10:00am or 11:00am start, 8:30pm or 9:30pm end time with rotating holidays

Responsibilities:

1. Investigate problems with equipment, test results, specimens, and workflow.
2. Participate in teams or perform special projects/assignments.
3. Perform teaching of students and residents and training of new employees; serve as a technical resource.
4. Perform quality control and equipment maintenance.
5. Perform routine and specialized tests, observe reactions, and provide data.
6. Prepare specimens and reagents as required.
7. Report results to healthcare providers and consult regarding test results.
8. Review test results for accuracy and timely correction of errors.

Other Information

Education Requirements: Bachelor's of Science degree; must meet eligibility requirements to sit for MT exam within 12 months of hire.

Licensure/Certification Requirements: Must obtain certification within one year of becoming exam eligible.

Professional Experience Requirements: No prior experience required.
