Job summary

Advocate Health in Downers Grove, IL seeks a Medical Laboratory Technologist to perform and evaluate laboratory tests, calibrate instruments, and ensure timely reporting of results across transfusion services, microbiology, chemistry, hematology, histology, coagulation, and flow cytometry. You will train staff, participate in quality improvement, and support critical care departments as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Clinical Laboratory Sciences.
• Bachelor's or Associate's Degree in Medical Technology or related field.
• ASCP MT/MLS or AMT MT certification within 1 year.
• No experience required.

Responsibilities

• Performs, evaluates, and monitors laboratory tests as authorized within established protocols. Monitors workflow and adjusts to complete work in an appropriate time frame.
• Evaluates results for clinical significance, validity and appropriateness. Reports findings per policy.
• Performs calibration, maintenance and repair of instruments and equipment; recognizes indicators of malfunction and corrects.
• Performs, documents and reviews quality control and quality assurance per protocol; takes corrective action when indicated.
• Collects specimens from newborn, pediatric, and adult patients according to protocol.
• Provides training and technical leadership to medical laboratory technicians, phlebotomists, and support staff; assists in education protocols and training.
• Improves quality and efficiency of procedures, ensuring CAP standards in an acute setting.
• Performs internal and external proficiency testing.
• Performs specialty testing in transfusion services, microbiology, chemistry, hematology, histology, coagulation, and flow cytometry; supports turn-around time goals.
• Provides direct support and timely laboratory results for critical care departments (ED, ICU, OR) during high acuity events.
