Job Description

Position: Part-time Laboratory Technician (24 hours/week)

Schedule: 2:30pm - 11:00pm, including holidays and weekends

Responsibilities

1. Demonstrate multitasking abilities as a contributing member of a multi-disciplined laboratory section.
2. Support the medical center and departmental mission of excellence by pursuing quality improvement.
3. Follow established procedures to perform routine, STAT, or special tests, ensuring accurate recording of results and timely reporting.
4. Maintain competence in all scheduled test protocols through periodic and annual challenges.
5. Understand bodily processes related to laboratory testing and correlate testing data for troubleshooting and clinical follow-up.
6. Successfully troubleshoot methodology failures.
7. Exhibit strong organizational skills and handle multiple duties efficiently.
8. Work independently and process duties in a timely manner, drawing on multi-departmental training and experience.
9. Perform all required Quality Control procedures, document results accurately, and address outliers appropriately.
10. Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment, documenting all activities.
11. Notify supervisors of unusual or unexpected results and report critical values with proper documentation.
12. Maintain complete, accurate, and legible records.
13. Teach and communicate ideas effectively, offering solutions to laboratory problems.
14. Follow organizational, departmental, and section policies, including safety and waste procedures.
15. Notify supervisors of potential problems that could impact laboratory goals.
16. Conduct oneself professionally in all interactions and appearances.
17. Assist with the orientation of new staff, students, residents, and fellows as directed.
18. Report laboratory test results using the Laboratory Information System as instructed.
