Position: Medical Technologist II

The Medical Technologist II performs routine and complex laboratory analyses, identifies and corrects problems, develops alternatives when necessary, stays current in laboratory theory and technique, and assumes responsibility for problem solving. The role requires exercising independent judgment and interpretation.

Qualifications

• Education: Minimum of an Associate's or Bachelor's degree in clinical laboratory science, medical technology, or a related field such as biology, chemistry, microbiology from an accredited institution.
• License & Certification: Preferred: MT (ASCP), MLS(ASCP), or MLT(ASCP) certification or equivalent.
• Experience: Minimum of one year experience in a full-service laboratory.
• Skills and Knowledge: Knowledge of specimen requirements, laboratory terminology, assay schedules, and expected turnaround times. Ability to read and understand written information and perform duties effectively in a fast-paced, stressful environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform testing efficiently, coordinating steps to maximize productivity.
• Operate, maintain, and repair laboratory equipment, including routine preventive maintenance, reagent preparation, calibration, and safety checks. Recognize and address instrument, equipment, and reagent issues, informing relevant personnel.
• Maintain currency through mandatory training, policy review, and continuing education. Provide instruction for students and new staff.
• Perform and document quality control procedures, evaluate results, and implement corrective actions as needed. Analyze data to identify trends and resolve issues, keeping relevant staff informed.
• Obtain blood specimens via venipuncture or skin puncture within scope of training and competency.
• Accession, triage, and process specimens for testing and transit, evaluating samples for acceptability.
• Follow all safety policies and procedures.
