Job summary

UP Health System Marquette's Blood Bank in Marquette, MI seeks a Medical Technologist Lead to join our team. This MAST union position offers diverse shifts and opportunities to lead diagnostic testing and reporting under the Director of Laboratory Services.

The role emphasizes accuracy, critical thinking, and collaboration with clinical staff, while supporting staff development and maintaining quality standards in a dynamic blood bank environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required and ASCP/AMT licensure preferred.
  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision in a stressful environment.
  • Valid driver license and BLS-HCP certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performs diagnostic testing on patient samples to assist physicians in diagnosing and monitoring disease states.
  • Reports to the Director of Laboratory Services.
  • Ensures quality and safety in a blood bank environment; adheres to surveillance and regulatory requirements.
  • Supports staff development and maintains accurate documentation.

This is a MAST union position. This position has a $7,500 sign on bonus for eligible external candidates.

How You'll Contribute

A Medical Technologist who excels in this role:

  • Performs diagnostic testing on patient samples to assist physicians in diagnosing and monitoring disease states.
  • Reports to the Director of Laboratory Services.
  • Essential Functions Additional Information
  • Patient Populations Served: Does not directly treat or care for patients.
  • Protected Health Information Accessed: Demographic, Clinical, Insurance, Financial, Complete Medical Record.
  • Exposure: Occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens is present.
  • Physical Requirements: Frequent sitting, computer/data entry, and equipment handling; occasional standing, walking, and light lifting.
  • Regular exposure to biological and chemical hazards, including blood and bodily fluids, hazardous medications, and latex.

What We're Looking For
  • Minimum Education Bachelor's degree
  • Medical Technologist licensure through ASCP or AMT preferred (licensure must reflect education requirements).
  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
  • Valid driver license
  • Basic Life Support Health Care Provider (BLS-HCP); ASCP or equivalent registry
