A leading medical facility is seeking a Medical Supply Technician to work in their Sterile Processing Service Line. The incumbent will focus on the sterilization and preparation of medical equipment, contributing to patient care by ensuring that all reusable equipment meets safety and hygiene standards. The Medical Supply Technician (MST) works within the Sterile Processing Service Line at the Minneapolis VA Medical Center. The incumbent provides sterilization, preparation, supply items, and reusable medical equipment decontamination and distribution support for the facility.
Basic Requirements:
Certification: None required.
Grandfathering Provision: Employees employed in this occupation on the effective date of this standard are considered to have met qualification requirements. Employees who do not meet all requirements but were qualified at the time of appointment may be reassigned or promoted within the occupation.
Foreign Education: Must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency by a recognized organization.
Language Proficiency: MSTs must be proficient in spoken and written English.
GS-3 (Entry Level): Experience or education as above.
GS-4 (Developmental Level): Six months of experience or two years of relevant education, plus demonstrated KSAs such as knowledge of universal precautions, medical terminology, sterilization equipment, and communication skills.
GS-5 (Developmental Level): One year of experience or a bachelor's degree with related coursework, plus KSAs including knowledge of surgical instruments, sterilization, and packaging.
GS-6 (Full Performance Level): One year of experience at the next lower grade, plus KSAs including knowledge of surgical instruments, universal precautions, anatomy, microbiology, and sterilization principles.
Preferred Experience: Education in sterile processing and certification in Sterile Processing VA-Level 2 or CRCST.
Physical Requirements: Physical activities include walking, grasping, lifting (up to 50 pounds), working in various environmental conditions, and handling materials safely.
Work Schedule: Various Monday-Friday shifts with rotating weekends, to be discussed during interviews.
