Summary

The Medical Supply Technician (MST) is assigned to Sterile Processing Service (SPS) and provides support for procedures related to decontamination, high-level disinfection (HLD), sterilization of critical and semi-critical reusable medical instruments and equipment, and storage of reprocessed items at James H Quillen Medical Center (JHQMC). The MST manages Reusable Medical Devices (RMD) and single-use (disposable) medical devices.

Qualifications

Applicants pending completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be tentatively referred and selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are fulfilled.

Basic Requirements:

• Citizenship: Must be a U.S. citizen.
• English Proficiency: Proficient in spoken and written English as per 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d).
• Experience and/or Education: Six months of experience demonstrating ability to perform or understand the work, or one year above high school including health care-related courses, or an equivalent experience/education combination.

Additional provisions include eligibility under the Grandfathering Provision for current VHA employees and grade-specific requirements for GS-03 to GS-06 levels, including experience, education, and demonstrated KSAs (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities).

Duties

• Support decontamination, sterilization, and inspection of medical equipment.
• Assemble instrument sets and trays, operate sterilization equipment, and prepare operating room case carts.
• Work in various settings within the medical facility, possibly in challenging environments with exposure to chemicals and physical hazards.
