Job description

Summary

The Medical Supply Technician (MST) is assigned to the Sterile Processing Service (SPS) and provides support for procedures related to decontamination, high-level disinfection (HLD), and sterilization of critical and semi-critical reusable medical instruments and equipment. The MST also manages the storage of reprocessed items at James H Quillen Medical Center (JHQMC), including Reusable Medical Devices (RMD) and disposable medical devices.

Qualifications

Applicants pending completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be considered tentatively but cannot be hired until all requirements are met.

Basic Requirements:

• Citizenship: Must be a U.S. citizen.
• English Proficiency: Proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d).
• Experience/Education:
• Six months of experience demonstrating the ability to perform MST duties or understanding of the work.
• OR one year of higher education including at least 6 semester hours in healthcare-related courses such as sterile processing, nursing assistant, hospital corpsman, or surgical technician courses.
• OR a combination of experience and education that qualifies for entry-level.

Additional provisions include grandfathering for current VHA employees and specific grade level requirements for GS-03 to GS-06 positions, with detailed experience and KSAs for each level.

Physical Requirements: Work may involve exposure to hot, cold, drafty areas, chemicals, and physical demands such as standing, walking, bending, lifting packages up to 50 pounds, and working in various hospital settings.
