Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Completion of college level courses or current healthcare student.
• Minimum of 2 years medical experience in a hospital setting or private practice.
• Experience with medical terminology and transcription to support clinical documentation.
• Ability to translate medical abbreviations into expanded forms.
• Experience in a surgical specialty is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assists the practitioner in navigating the Electronic Health Record (EHR) and may locate information for review as requested by the practitioner.
• Accompanies the practitioner upon patient interview and examination without interjecting observations.
• Documents dictated patient history, exam findings, and medications and allergies.
• Documents results of labs and imaging as dictated by the practitioner.
• Ensures chart rounds and proper authentication of documentation before chart sign-off.
