Job summary

Mercy Cedar Rapids is seeking a Clinical Scribe/Medical Assistant to support physicians in the clinic, documenting in real-time and assisting with patient care. You will prepare patients, take histories, vital signs, perform phlebotomy as needed, and ensure accurate medical records in the EPIC system.

The role requires CMA training or equivalent clinic experience, BLS certification, and Iowa mandated trainings.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, lab values, sterilization techniques and safe administration of medications.
• Operational knowledge of nebulizers, spirometers, EKG machines and other medical equipment.
• Ability to perform venipuncture, EKGs, spirometry and other procedures as required.
• Basic computer knowledge and navigation of an EHR.

Responsibilities

• Prepares instruments, supplies and protective devices for exam and testing prior to the visit.
• Rooms and prepares the patient for examination, reviews histories, allergies, medications, reason for visit and takes vitals.
• Per standing orders, orders/administers injections, collects specimens for lab testing and performs phlebotomy as needed.
• Provides patient instruction using pre-approved materials.
• Prints after-visit summary and completes discharge, including scheduling follow-ups or referrals.
• Documents encounter in the EHR in real time, including sections like history, exam, assessment and plan.
