Job summary

Mercy Cedar Rapids is seeking a Medical Assistant to support patient-centered care in a busy clinical setting. You will assist physicians and mid-level providers, prepare exam rooms, perform venipuncture, administer injections, take vitals, and provide patient education following provider instructions.

You will handle test processing, lab specimen collection, scheduling follow-ups, and communicating results to patients by phone or on-site. MFA certification and BLS are required.

Qualifications

• General knowledge of anatomy, diagnoses, pharmacology, lab values, and safety in medication administration.
• Operational knowledge of nebulizers, spirometers, EKG machines and other medical equipment.
• Ability to perform venipuncture, EKGs, spirometry and other procedures as required.
• Basic computer knowledge and navigation of an E.H.R.

Responsibilities

• Prepares instruments, supplies and protective devices for exam and testing prior to the visit.
• Rooms and prepares the patient for examination, reviews histories, allergies, medications, and vitals.
• Orders/administers injections, collects specimens for lab testing, and performs phlebotomy as needed.
• Provides patient instruction using education materials for chief complaint or health promotion as directed by the provider.
• Prints after visit summary and completes discharge, schedules follow-up or testing as needed.
