Job description

The Opportunity

Responsible for greeting donors at the plasma collection center and conducting registration procedures to verify donor suitability for plasma pheresis.

You will report to the Assistant Center Manager.

The Role

  1. Assist qualified donors in completing the screening process, including assessing health history, answering medical questions, referring donors to medical staff when needed, and performing health screenings such as blood pressure, pulse, weight, and temperature. Perform finger sticks to obtain samples for hematocrit and total protein levels.
  2. After appropriate training, educate new donors about therapeutic products made from plasma, explaining the screening process, health tests, appointment system, donation fees, policies, nutrition, and other relevant information. Ensure all donor questions are answered professionally and promptly.
  3. Register applicants and transfer donors as trained and based on operational needs.
  4. Answer phone calls and direct callers to appropriate staff.
  5. Monitor donors for reactions during or after pheresis and notify staff accordingly.
  6. Alert supervisors of donor flow issues.
  7. Accurately record donor data in the electronic management system following SOPs.
  8. Understand policies related to hyperimmune programs if applicable.
  9. Maintain a clean work environment and ensure supplies are available. Follow all HSE and OSHA policies, promoting safety.
  10. Maintain confidentiality of personnel, donor, and center information.
  11. Cross-train in other areas as needed.
  12. Bilingual skills may be required based on organizational needs.
  13. Perform other duties as assigned.

Your Skills and Experience

Education

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Experience

  • At least three months in a clerical or customer service role, preferably in a medical or health setting, or equivalent education and experience.
  • Basic math skills required.

Working Conditions

  • Follow oral and written instructions.
  • Observe equipment and communicate with customers.
  • Stand and walk up to 100% of the time.
  • Reach, bend, kneel, and perform tasks requiring manual dexterity.
  • Occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Work in a fast-paced environment with interruptions.
  • Be exposed to chemicals, extreme temperatures, and blood-borne pathogens.
  • Wear PPE as required.
  • Work overtime and extended hours as needed.
