Job summary

Aviata Health Group in Crestview, FL is seeking a Medical Record Coordinator to oversee the medical records department and ensure compliant filing and documentation. This role involves organizing records, maintaining active/discharged files, and supporting the MDS Coordinator with assessments, under OBRA guidelines.

The position requires knowledge of medical terminology and coding, familiarity with health information systems, and a commitment to patient privacy.

Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology.
• Experience with health information system procedures is a plus.
• Familiarity with ICD-10CM/DRG coding preferred.
• On-the-job training provided in medical records operations.
• Knowledge of accreditation standards and compliance requirements.

Responsibilities

• Organize, plan and direct the medical records department per policies.
• Maintain active and discharged records in the system.
• Establish & maintain a compliant filing system.
• File nurse notes, assessments, progress notes, labs and x-rays.
• Collect and file resident charts as required.
• Assist MDS Coordinator with scheduling assessments per OBRA.
• Review records to ensure ICD-9-CM coding is complete.
• Respond to requests for medical records in accordance with laws.
• Contribute to innovative, efficient improvements of systems and processes.
