Job Description: Medical Receptionist

PHMC is proud to be a leader in public health. All employees must receive the first Covid-19 vaccination dose by the first day of employment, which will be provided at no cost through our Health Centers.

Summary: The Medical Receptionist performs all front desk functions at primary care and community-based health centers serving underserved populations. This position reports to the Health Center Administrator.

Population Served:

  • Pediatric (0-19 yrs.)
  • Adult (19-64 yrs.)
  • Geriatric (65+ yrs.)
  • Nonage Specific Tasks (N/A)

Special Populations:

  • Bariatric Patients: BMI >40 or >35 with comorbidities
  • Patients with communication needs, developmental delays, end-of-life care, or under isolation precautions

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage all front desk functions in a primary care setting
  • Schedule appointments, including specialty and ancillary services
  • Answer phones and handle patient inquiries
  • Complete managed care referrals and obtain pre-authorizations as needed
  • Register patients and verify insurance information
  • Batch encounter forms daily and log referrals
  • Follow up on reports from specialists and arrange patient transportation when necessary
  • Assist patients and review charts for completeness
  • File reports and charts, perform other duties as assigned

Compliance Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to PHMC standards, policies, and procedures, including confidentiality and HIPAA
  • Stay informed of relevant federal, state, and accreditation regulations
  • Follow infection control and environment of care guidelines

Job Requirements:

Must be able to perform essential duties satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be provided for disabilities.

Skills:

  • Knowledge of billing, insurance verification, and medical terminology
  • Experience with managed care plans and referral processes
  • Strong organizational skills and a pleasant manner
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and be flexible

Experience: 1-2 years in a medical office environment

Education: High School Diploma or GED

Physical Demands: Standing, walking, sitting, and use of hands required; lifting up to 10 lbs.

Work Environment: Moderate noise, exposure to blood-borne pathogens with PPE use

Salary: Based on education and experience
