University of Maryland Faculty Physicians, Inc. is seeking a dedicated Medical Assistant to support physicians and nursing staff in patient care. You will assist with patient flow, take vitals, administer injections, and manage front desk tasks including registration and scheduling.

Responsibilities include clinical testing, phlebotomy, minor procedures, specimen collection, and document patient instructions while maintaining compassionate care for patients and families.

Qualifications

  • Medical Assistant certification is required
  • Demonstrated venipuncture skills
  • Ability to perform medical assisting responsibilities under state and faculty guidelines
  • CPR certification required
  • Knowledge of GE, EPIC or similar computerized billing system
  • General understanding of basic accounting principles

Responsibilities

  • Gathers and documents brief history and chief complaint in the medical record.
  • Follows guidelines to obtain testing prior to exams.
  • Performs routine office testing (phlebotomy, urinalysis, vision/hearing, etc.).
  • Assists provider with procedures and minor surgeries.
  • Obtains blood and urine specimens.
  • Administers and documents injections and medications.
  • Explains test prep and patient instructions to patients.
  • Exhibits compassion for patients and families.

Job description

Assists physicians and nursing staff in the care of patients. Performs various patient care activities, including assisting with patient flow, taking vitals, giving injections, and other needs as required. Maintains nurses' stations, exam and procedure rooms. Performs various front desk and clerical duties in a medical office including such functions as complete demographic and insurance registration, charge entry, scheduling patients and/or verifying insurance information. Must be fully certified in patient registration. Where the electronic system is in use, this position will utilize the system as documented in the department and/or FPI standard operating procedure and process; and other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Gathers and documents brief history and chief complaint in the medical record.
  • Follows established guidelines to obtain necessary testing based on the chief complaint prior to the exam. Prepares patient for examination by the health care provider.
  • Performs routine office testing, including but not limited to; phlebotomy, sweat and hydration tests, urinalysis, vision testing, hearing screening, pulmonary function testing, temperature, pulse and blood pressure.
  • Assists provider with procedures and minor surgical procedures.
  • Obtains necessary blood and urine specimens.
  • Administers and documents injections and other medications given.
  • Assists provider with clarification of patient instruction such as, diagnostic test preparation, and medication administration.
  • Exhibits compassion and empathy for all patients and families at all times.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred
  • Graduation from an accredited training program (school) or 2 years of supervised work experience in a medical setting. Exemptions will be vetted by Human Resources Director and Department Director.
  • Medical Assistant certification (such as NAHP, NCCT, AAMA, NHA, AMT, etc.) is required
  • Demonstrated skill in venipuncture
  • Ability to perform all medical assisting responsibilities under state and faculty guidelines
  • CPR certification required
  • General understanding and application of basic accounting principles
  • Current knowledge of payer requirements for referrals and pre-authorization
  • Knowledge of GE, EPIC or similar computerized billing system
  • Medical terminology preferred

Total Rewards
The referenced base salary range represents the low and high end of University of Maryland’s Faculty Physician’s Inc. salary range for this position.Some candidates will not be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. Exact salary will ultimately depend on multiple factors, which may include the successful candidate's geographic location, skills, work experience, market conditions, internal equity, responsibility factor and span of control, education/training and other qualifications.
