University of Maryland Faculty Physician’s Inc seeks a Medical Assistant to perform clerical duties in a medical office and to clinically assist with triaging patient records and with medication authorizations. This role will use the electronic system per SOPs and may include charge entry, scheduling, and other duties as assigned.

The ideal candidate has a Medical Assistant certification, venipuncture experience, CPR certification, and familiarity with EPIC or similar billing systems.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Graduation from an accredited training program or 3–5 years in a medical setting.
  • Medical Assistant certification is required.
  • Demonstrated venipuncture skills.
  • CPR certification required.
  • Knowledge of payer requirements for referrals and pre-authorization.

Responsibilities

  • Gather and document brief history and chief complaint in the medical record.
  • Prepare patient for examination by following guidelines and assisting with procedures.
  • Perform routine office testing (e.g., venipuncture, urinalysis, vision/hearing screening).
  • Assist provider with procedures and minor surgeries.
  • Obtain necessary blood and urine specimens and document injections.

Job description

Medical assistant to perform clerical duties in a medical office including such functions as complete demographic and insurance registration, charge entry, scheduling patients and/or verifying insurance information. Clinically assist with triaging patient records, assist with patient medication authorizations/ appeals. Where the electronic system is in use, this position will utilize the system as documented in the department and/or FPI standard operating procedure and process; and other duties assigned.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Gathers and documents brief history and chief complaint in the medical record.
  • Follows established guidelines to obtain necessary testing based on the chief complaint prior to the exam. Prepares patient for examination by the health care provider.
  • Performs routine office testing, including but not limited to; phlebotomy, sweat and hydration tests, urinalysis, vision testing, hearing screening, pulmonary function testing, temperature, pulse and blood pressure.
  • Assists provider with procedures and minor surgical procedures.
  • Obtains necessary blood and urine specimens.
  • Administers and documents injections and other medications given.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred.
  • Graduation from an accredited training program (school) or 3-5 years of supervised work experience in a medical setting. Exemptions will be vetted by Human Resources Director and Department Director.
  • Medical Assistant certification (such as NAHP, NCCT, AAMA, NHA, AMT, etc.) is required.
  • Demonstrated skill in venipuncture.
  • Ability to perform all medical assisting responsibilities under state and faculty guidelines.
  • CPR certification required.
  • General understanding and application of basic accounting principles.
  • Current knowledge of payer requirements for referrals and pre-authorization.
  • Knowledge of GE, EPIC or similar computerized billing system.
  • Medical terminology preferred.

The referenced base salary range represents the low and high end of University of Maryland’s Faculty Physician’s Inc. salary range for this position.Some candidates will not be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. Exact salary will ultimately depend on multiple factors, which may include the successful candidate's geographic location, skills, work experience, market conditions, internal equity, responsibility factor and span of control, education/training and other qualifications.
