Job summary

Kettering Health Middletown is seeking a part-time Medical Laboratory Technician to join the lab team. The role focuses on accurate testing, timely reporting, quality control, and instrument maintenance, with responsibilities spanning sample preparation, proficiency testing, and collaboration with staff.

The position requires a biology/chemistry/math background with MLS/MT certification or equivalent, and eligibility for national board exams.

Qualifications

• A baccalaureate degree including biology, chemistry and math with NAACLS MLS program or related BS/BA meeting certification.
• MT/MLS (ASCP) or MT/MLS (AMT) required or ASCP categorical certification with BS/BA in related science.
• Associate degree with 60 semester hours including chemistry and biology; MLT (ASCP) or MLT (AMT) required.
• All NAACLS-accredited programs within 6 months and eligibility for national board exam considered.

Responsibilities

• Performs accurate testing and recognizes abnormal results.
• Reports results timely in writing, verbally, by fax or computer.
• Notifies appropriate persons as necessary.
• Performs instrument checks, quality control, maintenance and calibration.
• Identifies QC issues and initiates corrective action.
• Follows analyzer operation and reagent preparation instructions.
• Documents and notifies lab leadership per policy.
• Maintains up-to-date computer skills and participates in staff meetings.
• Prepares samples with proper labeling, preservation, transport and safe handling.
• Handles proficiency samples appropriately and notifies care givers of critical results.
• Organizes and prioritizes workload to complete tasks on time.
• Able to multitask throughout the shift.
• Teaches procedures and evaluates trainees using established forms.
• Understands disease process theory as it applies to testing and results.
• Performs accuracy, precision and correlation studies for assays.
• Assists with schedules, training, inventory, purchasing and compliance.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Maintains competency and readiness to perform lab testing.
