Job description

JOB SUMMARY

Location: BSWH Medical Center Waxahachie TX

Department: Hematology/Chemistry/Blood Bank

Shift: Evening PRN, 4pm - 10pm, and on weekends between 5am - 9pm. Minimum of two 8-hour shifts per month.

Preferred Experience: MLS Generalist, ASCP or equivalent certification, with at least 3 years of lab experience in blood bank, hematology, and/or chemistry.

The Medical Laboratory Scientist 2 performs and monitors a full range of laboratory testing and research. They assume responsibility for problem resolution, quality control, and equipment maintenance with minimal supervision.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE

1. Performs laboratory tests in compliance with department procedures and all regulatory requirements.
2. Follows quality control, quality assurance, safety, and infection control procedures.
3. Performs instrument maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting.
4. Accurately reports test results.
5. Maintains appropriate inventory of supplies.
6. Maintains effective communication and working relationships with all laboratory personnel, other disciplines, and external customers.
7. Participates in laboratory projects and educational activities.
8. Demonstrates and educates others on laboratory methods and technical skills.
