Job summary

University of Michigan Health-West in Michigan is seeking a skilled Medical Laboratory Scientist to perform and evaluate a wide range of technical procedures using QC techniques, with automation support, and perform diagnostic procedures in other lab sections and venipunctures as needed.

The role requires a Bachelor's in Medical Technology or related science, current ASCP MLS certification, and 1–3 years of clinical lab experience; applicants should communicate effectively and maintain OSHA

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology or related science field required.
• Registered Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) by the ASCP required.
• 1–3 years of clinical laboratory experience preferred.
• Organizational skills needed to prioritize daily workload.
• Written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills needed to communicate successfully at all levels.
• Demonstrates knowledge to provide clinical data needed for treatment.
• Mandatory OSHA training.

Responsibilities

• Performs technical procedures within the department accurately and precisely by following established policies.
• Enters test results accurately in the laboratory information system.
• Calls “critical value” or patient waiting results within 10 minutes of test completion and documents actions.
• Demonstrates ability to evaluate results and determine technical accuracy.
• Oversees the work of a medical laboratory technician and establishes quality assurance programs.
• Performs other duties as assigned, maintains knowledge base, pursues continuing education, participates in committees as determined by management.
