Job summary

Beacon Health System in Michigan is seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist to perform high- and moderate-complexity tests in a fast-paced hospital laboratory. You will maintain QA/QC, report results, notify critical values, and support specimen handling and instrument maintenance.

Responsibilities include following CFR 493.1495 and 493.1425, ensuring safety compliance, and mentoring staff. A MLS degree and certification within one year of hire are required.

Qualifications

• Requires a bachelor’s degree in medical laboratory science or a chemical/physical/biological science and completion of a CAHEA-accredited MLS program.
• Certification as MLS within one year of graduation or hire is required.
• Qualify as testing personnel for high and moderate complexity testing per CFR CFR.493.1489/493.1423.

Responsibilities

• Independently performs qualitative and quantitative laboratory tests following policies and procedures.
• Notifies physicians of critical lab values.
• Maintains QA/QC documentation and proficiency testing.
• Operates, calibrates, and maintains laboratory instruments and equipment.
• Prepares specimens for testing and handles shipping/receiving of specimens.
