Job summary

University of Michigan Health-West is seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist for the Days shift, 0.7 FTE (28 hrs/wk). The role requires precise and accurate execution of technical procedures and data entry with quality control support.

You will perform diagnostic procedures across laboratory sections and venipunctures as needed, while ensuring timely communication of critical values and adherence to safety standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology or related science (chemical, physical, or biological sciences).
• Registered MLS by ASCP required.
• 1–3 years of clinical laboratory experience preferred.
• Demonstrates organizational skills to prioritize daily workload.
• OSHA training mandatory.

Responsibilities

• Performs technical procedures accurately by following department policies.
• Enters test results in the laboratory information system accurately.
• Contacts critical values within 10 minutes of test completion and documents communication.
• Evaluates test results for technical accuracy and reliability.
• Oversees work of laboratory technicians and maintains quality assurance programs.
• Performs other duties as assigned, including ongoing education and participation in committees.
