Job summary

McLaren Health Care in Michigan seeks a Medical Laboratory Technologist to support diagnosis and treatment by performing chemical analyses of body fluids, blood, and cultures, and by reporting results in a timely and accurate manner. The position requires a Bachelor’s degree in medical technology or related field, MT certification within 18 months, and experience operating lab equipment with adherence to QA/QI standards.

Full-time schedule from 6:00 a.m.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in medical technology or related field.
• MT certification or certified within 18 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Determine normal and abnormal components of body fluids by chemical analyses.
• Analyze blood cells by counting and identifying cells.
• Prepare blood, plasma, and platelets for transfusions by conducting blood group, type, and compatibility tests.
• Process, read, and report cultures from various sources as well as antibiotic sensitivities and other microbiology procedures.
• Operate and calibrate analyzers, spectrophotometers, colorimeters, flame photometers, and other lab equipment; perform preventive maintenance.
• Maintain laboratory supplies inventory by checking stock and expediting orders; ensure proper storage and inventory levels.
• Provide medical technology information by answering questions and requests; prepare reports of findings.
• Orient and train new employees; participate in QA/QI standards and infection-control policies.
