Job summary

Lexington Health in West Columbia, SC seeks a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) to provide comprehensive lab services for inpatients and outpatients. The MLS ensures accurate testing and analysis to improve patient outcomes and supports nursing and medical staff within LMC procedures and policies.

The MLS performs both routine and specialized testing, handles specimen collection, calibration, quality control, and documentation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree from a national or international accredited educational institution.
• Active MT/MLS certification by ASCP Board of Certification or equivalent state/governmental cert.
• Candidates without active MT/MLS certification but registry eligible may be considered but must obtain certification within one year of hire.

Responsibilities

• Perform manual and automated laboratory testing per accreditation requirements and LMC procedures.
• Handle specimen collection and ensure accurate data recording and reporting.
• Maintain quality control, instrument calibration, and routine maintenance; monitor trends and take corrective action as needed.
• Train new staff and students on procedures and equipment, ensuring safety and compliance.
