Job summary

Akron Children’s Hospital is seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist for a full-time, day shift position onsite in Akron, OH. The role performs routine and complex laboratory testing, evaluates results, and supports clinical decision-making with high-quality laboratory information.

The candidate will have a Bachelor's in Medical Technology, ASCP Technologist certification or eligibility, and at least 2 years of relevant lab experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or related science with internship or equivalent experience.
• ASCP Technologist certification or eligibility.
• Minimum 2 years of relevant laboratory experience preferred.
• Experience with Laboratory Information Systems preferred.
• Proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Follows procedures for collecting, processing biological specimens and evaluating specimens for acceptability.
• Exercises professional judgment in order to prioritize and evaluate varying test requests efficiently.
• Utilizes independent judgment in performing laboratory tests of all complexities using a variety of techniques, instrumentation, and equipment with accuracy and precision.
• Demonstrates scientific knowledge of testing principles, analytic procedures, and their results allowing for appropriate interpretation in conjunction with disease and physiology.
• Performs interprets and monitors quality control, calibrates and troubleshoots equipment, assists with implementation and validation of new equipment, and/or methods, documents maintenance and corrective action, performs proficiency testing according to regulatory standards.
• Assists in training new employees as needed and is able to perform competence assessment on tests of all CLIA complexities.
• Performs tasks efficiently and maintains a neat and safe work area.
• Participates in education efforts of the department.
• Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care for the physical, psych/ social, educational, and safety needs of the patients served regardless of age.
• Other duties as required.
