Job summary
Avera DeSmet Memorial Hospital in DeSmet, SD is seeking a Medical Laboratory Technician to perform a variety of clinical laboratory tests and duties on a day shift with rotating weekends and holidays. You will operate instrumentation, ensure quality control, communicate results to care teams, and participate in CQI activities as part of a multidisciplinary laboratory team.
The role requires an MLT credential and graduation from an accredited program; AMT/ASCP within 1 year is preferred.
Qualifications
- Associate's Transcript showing Medical Laboratory Technology degree or
- Technical Certificate Transcript showing Medical Laboratory Technology degree
- MLT certification: AMT or ASCP within 1 Year
Responsibilities
- Day-to-day operations of laboratory instrumentation or disciplines including supply inventory, quality control, calibration, reagent preparation, etc.
- Initiates and follows through with corrective action; prioritize workflow
- Performs basic to complex clinical laboratory testing following established procedures
- Communicates laboratory data to appropriate departments and providers in a timely fashion
- Analyzes results and applies critical thinking with MLS/supervisor resources as needed
- Assesses validity of unusual results and takes corrective action with MLS/supervisor help
- Participates in CQI or other laboratory activities
- Provides instructions on specimen collection, handling, and storage
