Job summary

McLaren Health Care in Grand Blanc, Michigan, is hiring a Medical Laboratory Scientist in Microbiology to perform diagnostic tests and analyses that inform patient care. You will operate analyzers, prepare specimens, and contribute to quality control in a busy lab environment.

Full-time schedule 8:00am–4:30pm, no on-call requirements, MLS certification pursued within 18 months, and a bachelor’s degree in medical technology or related field required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in medical technology, medical laboratory science, chemistry, or related biological science field.
• MLS certification within 18 months of hire or transfer.

Responsibilities

• Determines normal and abnormal components of body fluids by conducting chemical analyses of blood, urine, spinal fluids, and gastric juices.
• Analyzes blood cells by counting and identifying cells, using microscopic techniques and procedures.
• Prepares blood, plasma, and platelets for transfusions by conducting blood group, type, and compatibility tests.
• Processes, reads, and reports cultures from various sources as well as antibiotic sensitivities and other microbiology procedures.
• Ensures operation of analyzers, spectrophotometers, colorimeters, and other laboratory equipment by calibrating; completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; maintaining equipment inventories; evaluating new equipment and techniques.
• Maintains laboratory supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies; verifying receipt of supplies.
