GENERAL OVERVIEW:

Performs various technical and support laboratory duties under the supervision of a Medical Technologist.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Uses predetermined criteria for quality control and ensures that the technologist in charge is aware of quality results that are out of control. (5%)
2. Prepares and processes specimens according to department procedures and protocols; has limited capacity to result testing. (45%)
3. Performs test order entry accurately and efficiently to ensure proper testing and charges of patient accounts. (30%)
4. Provides support such as answering telephones, faxing reports, and reporting stat and critical value results. (10%)
5. Maintains the cleanliness of the work area and ensures adequate supplies for efficient laboratory operations. (5%)
6. May mentor MLA students in specimen processing utilizing WPAHS policies and procedures. (5%)
7. Performs other duties as assigned or required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum

• Associates or BA degree in a clinical science, or enrolled in a current Med Tech program.
• Requires decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a fast-paced and high-volume environment.

Preferred

• Certificate from an accredited MLA program preferred. Experience in a clinical laboratory is also preferred.
