GENERAL OVERVIEW:

Performs various technical and support laboratory duties under the supervision of a Medical Technologist.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Uses predetermined criteria for quality control and assures that the technologist in charge is aware of quality results that are out of control. (5%)
  2. Prepares and processes specimens according to department procedures and protocols and has limited capacity to result testing. (45%)
  3. Performs test order entry accurately and efficiently to ensure proper testing and charges of patient accounts. (30%)
  4. Provides support such as answering telephones, faxing reports and reporting stat and critical value results. (10%)
  5. Maintains the cleanliness of the work area and adequate supplies for efficient laboratory operations. (5%)
  6. May mentor MLA students in specimen processing utilizing WPAHS policies and procedures. (5%)
  7. Performs other duties as assigned or required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum:

  1. Associates -or- BA degree in a clinical science -or- enrolled in a current Med Tech program.
  2. Requires decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a fast pace and high-volume environment.

Preferred:

  1. Certificate from an accredited MLA program preferred. Experience in a clinical laboratory, preferred.
